Projection Mapping for Serato

Ever want to get away from the computer but still use Serato? This projection concept allows for that, sorta. Check out the video, its a pretty interesting concept. Your tracks or waveforms get projected right on the records and the playlists are infront of you. I have no idea how they did this. And I dont really see a real life application for this, unless you were doing a special artsy show. But its cool nonetheless. Video is after the jump:

How to set up Kontrol X1 for Serato

If you have been DJing in the last few years, then you know that controllers are becoming widely used. Personally, I use turntables with Dicers. But I just picked up a Traktor Kontrol X1 to expand my capabilities, mainly to control effects and loops. After testing some other controllers that are similar, I settled on this one, and its way better than some of the other controllers out there. However, it was NOT easy to set up. Watch the video below for a run-through and instructions, and click through for download links and more thoughts on this controller.

Qbert’s Breakfast Of Champions – Tractor Promo video (UPDATE! with explanation video)

DJ Q-bert, Shiftee, and Rafik, all DMC champs, teamed up at Qbert's place in San Francisco to put on a promo set for Native Instrument's Tractor Pro 2, which will be available worldwide on April 1st. They were using all the inputs on the new 10-input/output audio interface. They were using just one Tractor 2 program also (but all 4 tables are plugged to the 1 interface. Not too shabby. The video is great, and you will need a good breakfast to scratch like these guys. Check it out:

Serato’s new SL 4 box, lets take a look (with video)

First of all, for those of you that recently bought an SL 3 box, im sorry. Yes its superior to the previous box, but this new SL 4 is much better. The main difference is the fact that it now has 2 USB 2.0 ports for seamless switchovers or simultaneous DJing (like in the Rand 68 mixer). The SL 4 supports 96 kHz sample rate and high quality 24-bit digital audio processing. You may ask yourself, what does that mean? Well, it means its going to sound great! The MSRP is $899, but I am guessing you will be able to find it for cheaper when it hits the stores in April. Continue reading for the official statement from Serato and the video from NAMM 2011.

Serato Tip of the Week: Back-up Your “_ScratchLive_” Folders.

Recently I encountered a big problem with Serato Scratch Live. The backups for the ScratchLive are not so great. I was at a gig and everything was fine. The next day, when I awoke, I hooked up my portable hard drive and 90% of my crates were missing. How did this happen? How can you fix this? Why does this happen anyhow? All questions hot in my mind. Bottom line, you got to make your own backups of your "_ScratchLive_" and/or "ScratchLive" folders. Click through for the details and how to fix this problem.
