Every DJ needs a good bag. The problem is they are expensive and its hard to tell if you are buying what you need until you bring it home and pack it up. If its too tight, then thats no good, if its too big, same problem. Like Goldilocks, it needs to be just right. I found one that fits my needs, and more importantly, all my equipment. I have fit a lot in the Jetpack bag including a Rane 57, and it all fits quite comfortably. But don't get me wrong, if you have less stuff, the bag can be collapsed down and be smaller, so thats good. Its the Jetpack DJ Bag. Checkout the video so see the rest of my take on this bag. Also there are many pics of this bag and more info, like where to buy it, after the jump:

Lets face it, its important to take pics and video of your events to show how great you are to the world. And most of us use a DSLR of some sort which means you need a nice camera strap. A fashion designer friend of NYCelectro.com, Melissa Patenaude of A7 Branding Firm, has designed these extremely high quality, leather, camera straps. They are designed in brooklyn and 100% produced in Brooklyn, a true made in the USA product. Click here to participate in their crowd funded efforts (like kickstarter but they are called Smallknot and its more focused on local small businesses), and be the first to get these amazing camera straps, but act fast because you only have 2 days left to get in on the pre-orders. Below is the making of video, and click through for more pictures and videos of the straps. >jump

Ever want to get away from the computer but still use Serato? This projection concept allows for that, sorta. Check out the video, its a pretty interesting concept. Your tracks or waveforms get projected right on the records and the playlists are infront of you. I have no idea how they did this. And I dont really see a real life application for this, unless you were doing a special artsy show. But its cool nonetheless. Video is after the jump:
Ever want to painlessly move your files to another drive but were not sure how? Well, you are in luck cause Serato just posted tips on how to do this smoothly without hickups. Also, 2.3.3 just released so go get that . The tips cover Internal to External, Internal to Internal, External to Internal, External to External. Your head spinning yet? You should buck mark this page because you will eventually need this (if you dont need it now). Click through for the link and the list of improvements on Serato 2.3.3. Also, this video from serato is definitely an interesting use of the equipment.

If you have been DJing in the last few years, then you know that controllers are becoming widely used. Personally, I use turntables with Dicers. But I just picked up a Traktor Kontrol X1 to expand my capabilities, mainly to control effects and loops. After testing some other controllers that are similar, I settled on this one, and its way better than some of the other controllers out there. However, it was NOT easy to set up. Watch the video below for a run-through and instructions, and click through for download links and more thoughts on this controller.
How to map Traktor Kontrol X1 with Serato, easy setup
DJ Q-bert, Shiftee, and Rafik, all DMC champs, teamed up at Qbert's place in San Francisco to put on a promo set for Native Instrument's Tractor Pro 2, which will be available worldwide on April 1st. They were using all the inputs on the new 10-input/output audio interface. They were using just one Tractor 2 program also (but all 4 tables are plugged to the 1 interface. Not too shabby. The video is great, and you will need a good breakfast to scratch like these guys. Check it out:

DJ Shiftee's explanation on what is actually going on in this video. Its not magic, but I wish it was.
Using the camera connection kit and some other options, you can exploit the iPads midi functionality. The videos below is by the guys from Create Digital Music, in association with TekServe, and he goes in-depth with some ways to hook up midi devices to your iPad. The first video is of a performance using FunkBox iPad app and a x0xb0x sequencer / synth. The video, after the jump, is an in-depth explanation on how you can hook it all up and use it in different ways. Now all we need is a good copy of Serato or Tractor on the iPad. First of all, for those of you that recently bought an SL 3 box, im sorry. Yes its superior to the previous box, but this new SL 4 is much better. The main difference is the fact that it now has 2 USB 2.0 ports for seamless switchovers or simultaneous DJing (like in the Rand 68 mixer). The SL 4 supports 96 kHz sample rate and high quality 24-bit digital audio processing. You may ask yourself, what does that mean? Well, it means its going to sound great! The MSRP is $899, but I am guessing you will be able to find it for cheaper when it hits the stores in April. Continue reading for the official statement from Serato and the video from NAMM 2011.
Via newegg.com, you can get Seagate 'FreeAgent Go Flex' 1.5TB portable (bus powered) hard drive for only $129.99. This is a great deal! The deal ends on Jan 17th, so you have a couple days to get act. I think, all they ask is for you to sign up for their newsletter, and you can do that during checkout. I just got the same price at Best Buy, but for only the 1TB drive. I think I am going to return it for this deal.
So, if you DJ using a portable, then I definitely recommend this purchase. If you just need a great way to back up your music and videos, then you still cant go wrong here. Its a masive amount of storage that fits on a portable 2.5" drive. Click through for the deal and more pictures and product details.
