Crizzly’s Remix of Thrift Shop by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Thrift Shop, you heard of it? I know you have. Its this year's unlikely chart topper, hitting #1 on Billboard a few weeks back and still holding the #1 or #2 position depending on what chart you look at. Also, their newer song, "Can't Hold Us", is flying up the charts and is currently also holding a #1 or #2 position depending on the chart you are looking at. Anyhow, Lets talk Crizzly, if you dont know, its time to know him. He is an amazing artist and this remix is good. There is a saying "Crizzly fixed it", this song didn't really need fixing (aside from the over exposure), but this remix is good and will breath a bit of life back into the song for any DJ that is completely sick of it. One question, where is the music video version!? That would be cool.

If you click to soundcloud and click download, itll take you to Crizzly's fb page for a free download (or just click that link).

WMC VJ Competition with DJ Lazor, The Champs and gossip

The Winter Music Conference was a few months back and as you may already know, yours truly, DJ Color TV came home with the 3rd place championship for the DJ Mixing Competition. There was also a scratching competition and a VJ or V-DJ competition, in which NYCelectro.com's own DJ Lazor competed in. The VJ competition was not the best run competition in the world and for sure it was the not managed well. It seemed as if the people running the competition were more worried about keeping the volume low than on the skill of the competitors. But that being said, the winners were great. Lazor may not have placed (they only named 1st and 2nd) but his set was great. Check it out below, also check out the winning sets and the real scoop/shit of the battles after the jump.

Everything is a Remix Project comes to a conclusion, Watch parts 1 – 4 here

Back in September of 2010, Kirby Ferguson brought us the first of 4 parts to "Everything is a Remix", a video project that explores remixing through all media and the copyright laws that have evolved around this phenomenon. Here, you can watch all 4 parts after the jump. Its very interesting to see all of the different places people have drawn inspiration from or "stolen" from, as it is today. Copyright law needs to be revised! But in the spirit of remixing and reusing other people's materials, I give you "Everything is a Remix" Parts 1 through 4. Click through to view:

Girl Talk’s new Album, get it here (sorta)

This past Monday, Novermber 15th, everyone's favorite non-DJ, Girl Talk, released his 5th album entitled "All Day". You can download it for free. I have been listening to it and its everything you would expect from Girl Talk these days, and its great! Mashups/remixes times 10. One of the best parts of listing to this is that he does many of these mixes live. Some are pre-mixed (obviously), but for the most part, its live. Creativity, what is it?: “Walking On Eggshells” video

When you create music or art in general, how is it started? How is it finished? Who are your influences? Are you using other people's material? Are you making a remix if so? Is a certain lyric from another song?

These are the questions that permeate todays creative society. A couple weeks ago, we posted about "Everything is a Remix" which scratches the surface of a broader conversation. So, where does creativity come from? It comes from everywhere and artists have sampled everything across time. The video, after the jump, covers this subject well. So, click through for the video and more about the subject.

Everything is a Remix – Part 1 of a 4 Part Series on the Remix

Goodie Bag, a web video producer, makes short episodes on a variety of interesting subjects, and this week they picked up a 4-part series on how everything is a remix. The video, after the jump, takes a look at the old school artists and how they came up with their "original" material. This traces an early remix starting from an early 1961 writing technique, then brings it to the early rock material. Parts 2 - 4 are not out yet, but I am sure they will prove to be very interesting and show even more light into the world of remixing.

As far as DJing goes, we almost always play other peoples music and remix things on the fly at the club. Many DJs will make their own dance remixes of songs to further enhance their set and set them apart from your standard DJ. DJ Spinbad is a great example of someone that does that. So when you are creating a "new" track, don't be shy, let your creative juices flow, and remix your ass off!

Click through for the video and a list of the songs used in the video.
